I learned this company is legit after all. I got my bill in the mail, and the phone number 866-495-1768 was listed there as customer service to call for any questions/make a payment. They go by only "Patient Billing Services" at first because they oversee or help a lot of different accounts for different medical/and or vision entities. So, they can only disclose the name of the actual place until they have verified the caller on the other end is the patient, for security purposes, their policy does not allow to disclose the actual facility or office name until they know they're speaking to the correct party before proceeding with the rest of the call. So, they can be calling for a hospital, a surgery center, a rehab center, an eye dr office, etc. The place we went to use this company as their "billing department" to collect payment on their behalf. I learned they're outsourced but based in California.

I've blocked the phone number. But they managed to leave a very unprofessional message. It was a gentlemen's voice saying it was patient billing. I could barely understand him. The previous calls were automated messages.

A woman called asking for me by my legal name. I don’t use my legal name. I use a shortened version of my name. I asked her who she was with and she said she was with patient billing. I told her that really doesn’t tell me who you’re with. What company are you calling with? She wouldn’t tell me because she said she had to verify I was who she was trying to reach. However, I will not give my birthdate or my Social Security number out as it’s security risk. I told her I can’t talk to you until I know what company you’re with… if you need to reach me then you should have my address. Send me the information you need to give me and I hung up on her. If they weren’t with a doctors office or a hospital or surgical center, it does not break HIPAA rules to tell me who you’re with. You’re not giving out anybody any type of medical information by telling me who you’re with Be aware of the scammers. Don’t give any information out unless you are completely 100% sure of who you’re talking to. Also be aware not to say the word yes or no scammers can be recording and can change their part of the recording to make it sound like you’ve agreed to something that you haven’t. The way I look at it if somebody has a bill that they are calling me about they can easily mail me the information, but as I have not received any bills or any information for my insurance that something hasn’t been paid This tells me it’s a scam.
